about peace or war

I came over this statement, we end war, or war ends us:

Congressman Kucinich's Response to President Obama's "Just War" Doctrine
Friday, 11 December 2009
(December 10, 2009) Congressman Kucinich will introduce legislation to address bonus payments to employees of banks that received taxpayers' monies for financial bailouts. The Congressman released the following statement:

"Yesterday, our president mused about the inevitability of war, war's instrumentality in the pursuit of peace and just wars. It is important for us to reflect on his words, because once we believe in the inevitability of war, war becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Once we are committed to war's instrumentality in pursuit of peace, we begin the Orwellian journey to the semantic netherworld where War IS Peace, where the momentum of war overwhelms hopes for peace. And once we wrap doctrines perpetuating war in the arms of justice, we can easily legitimate the wholesale slaughter of innocents. The war against Iraq was based on lies. Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan are based on flawed doctrines of counter-insurgency. War is often not just; sometimes it is just war. And our ability to rethink the terms of our existence, to explore the possibility of peace without war, may well determine whether we end war, or war ends us."

probably

If I had my home somewhere near San Diego, I´d probably visit this exhibition. http://uag.ucsd.edu/exhibitions/2009/09_offthebeatenpath.shtml

Had the idea from Yoko Ono´s Twitter.

Now I don´t live anywhere near there, not even in California nor in the US, it might just arrive into Europe one day...or I have to be pleased to know I saw one of Yoko´s the other year, in Stockholm ... and that beats about everything.

bad

This is not very nice to read, though I´ve heard about it earlier, from Trent Reznors tweets I think it was or it may have been on the NIN page. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/22/politics/main5409256.shtml

This very day it was on the Swedish news, saying there are artists like Britney Spears, Eminem and David Gray also had their music used at Gitmo. Swedish artists want to take action, at least indicate it´s wrong by charging STIM-money, (SwedishComposersInternationalMusicagency), meaning they want to get payed when their music is of official use, thus attract attention to the question an show that they are aware.

... just was in Rob Sheridan mode.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

...and in the end, the love you take ...

My friend asked me the other day, "Do you truly believe Trent Reznor will ever receive the Pulitzer Prize?" and I think I answered him something like ... "... of course, some time in future, if he keeps on like he did up till now and does things his own way, yes, I think he will."

From The NIN Hotline: (on the 11th of September)

"Last night, in front of a few thousand diehard fans at the Wiltern Theatre in LA, Nine Inch Nails wrapped up their final live show in grand fashion by playing through a blistering 37 song setlist that lasted over three hours. Guests at the show included Mike Garson on the piano, Gary Numan, Atticus Ross, Dave Navarro and The Dillinger Escape Plan. On Twitter, #NIN became the number one trending topic during the evening as thousands, if not almost millions of fans across the world shared their favorite NIN moments over the last 20 years. It was truly a great night to be a NIN fan.

If you were at the show,
ETS's tour journal entry is still wide open and could use all of the memories from those in attendance. Head here and remember, you don't have to be a member of the board to post in the journal. If you weren't at the show, SPIN.com has an article/review of the show along with a few pictures.

Now, the future. There have been various articles around the internet (and hopefully they've all been entered into our archives) where Trent has stated that although he is done touring, this does not mean that he is done making music. If there's a moment in history that this mirrors, it would be The Beatles making the decision to stop playing live. Although the Fab Four finished touring after Revolver was released, they still went on to record classic albums like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles and Abbey Road among others along with each member expanding and furthering their solo careers.

What am I getting at here? There's still a lot of story to be told in the great big, epic book of Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. We'll keep everyone updated on what's going to happen next as soon as the news breaks. It's still a great time to be a NIN fan!"

NIN in NYC

Well, quite an interesting review from the NIN show at Bowery Ballroom the other night. This critic seems to be a fan of The Down Ward Spiral as he repeatedly comes back to the uncomfortable feelings of desperation, flawed emotional life and despair, that was Trent Reznors expressions in those days, and which got him into the big crowd arena.

I´m a big fan of Trent Reznor and his music and I´m pretty certain there´s a lot more to it than that, as I´ve listened fiercefully to every song and every piece of music in his repertoire. Here´s the review:

Reznor izz a Twitter Quitter!

.

Hey ya! I just had to write that caption, had to catch the advantage of the occasion when it occured. I read an article, "Trent Reznor is a twitter quitter" and I just distorted the words a little bit and suddenly it became funny to read, and it looks funny too (... as the artist I sometimes claim myself to be would notice). Though the contents of the article isn´t that agreeable to read it still is the painful truth, he did quit twitter, and the reason why he did it .... well, it´s not up to us to have an opinion, we´re not in his position, but it does seem to me like he is a little bit of a softy not being able to handle the situation.

As a celebrity you have to expect there are people doing bad things, saying bad things, they will threat you, whatever. The world is full of crazy people, evil minds, jealous souls, that´s frightful enough to me but it´s a fact, and when you become known as an official person you automatically become a target, in various contexts. I have friends in politics being targeted as well, and that´s not nice at all, that´s even in a smaller community and my friends are actually in within physical reach for the threat.

Now Trent Reznor may be a sensitive personality to some extent, he says he wants to interact with his fans, wants to be fair and decent, but the results to that and the reactions he had, it looks as he wasn´t at all prepared for that. I personally feel it was a lot better before, yes before he became this person mixing his everyday thoughts and feelings into it all. To me he was a musician with integrity, everything that came to our knowledge was carefully worked out and thought through, as it seemed. I interpreted his work as serious and proffesional, not just any crap made to earn money, but work that really ment something to him, an artists work, not something manufactured for a glamorous rockstar. And, I wasn´t really interested in his personal life, I just wanted his music. He is a great businessman, he´s good at that too, everyone was gaining from it, until now.

I would have, and I think most of his fans would, been pleased enough to be informed of his musical thoughts and plans, of course we would want the man to feel happy and have a reasonable good life, but we don´t care so much about girlfriends, and kids, his falling outs, scandals and trials and stuff ... that´s his life and I don´t even fucking know the guy!! I just couldnt care less. Now there are mad and evil women sending verbal attacks onto his girlfriend, and himself, making him leaving Twitter, so he says. That is the price you have to pay, I guess, as a celebrity if you´re much too openhearted and frank about your lovelife on the microbloggs. That´s a pity of course, it sucks if you ask me, but I´m in my strongest belief it just couldn´t have come as a surprise to this guy, he´s not like a twenty-year-old teenage star, he´s an experienced musician in his early forties. Maybe, I just say maybe, he didn´t think it through before he started it, maybe, just maybe, he should have stuck to the former plan, thinking things through before making a statement, thus keeping his integrity.

hot chill!

It´s very hot in this, my country of birth, right now, and it´s nice, it feels I am able to relax and slow down, deep inside. There isn´t actually anything else to do, but to surrender and devote myself to the hot air. I need to accumulate heat, to wear when winterseason arrives trying to chill me down ... and it does anyway, every f*****g year since so many years back I can recall.

Hang over

Ok, today´s Trending Topic on Twitter, apart from #iranelection, Mousavi, Tehran, Apple ..., "Do Not Use Twitter".

e.g. : "Do Not Use Twitter if you think it´s kind of a joke, you have to know it´s kind of a joke", "D.N.U.T when drunk", "D.N.U.T. when sober! :-)", "D.N.U.T if you don´t follow me.", "D.N.U.T. before washing hands.", "D.N.U.T on a romantic dinner.", "D.N.U.T. to replace coffee: not enough caffeine.", "D.N.U.T if you are Batman, Robin needs his tights back." ... and so on.

Seems the Twitterers have the big hangover-day, just like the Swedish right now!! ... the day after Midsommers Eve.

... and thick clouds are gathering around, and there´s talk about lightning storms, wow. But me I´m onn Twitter and daughter just got addicted to Matrix. Well, alright for a hangover day.

Macchiato

I´ve neglected this my english thinking, as it looks, but the truth is I actually read a lot, Ian McEwan is an author I´ve recently discovered ... and I´m a lot on twitter, and that´s not an easy task language wise I can tell you that. People use all kinds of abbrevations and everyday words that I´ve never heard of. It´s an interesting source though, to find out about things and people, learn how they react on newsflashs and so on, and there´s a certain charm in being one of the first persons to know ...

Well today I learned something new in real life ... a had a new kind of coffee-drink, the Espresso Macchiato. I´m so glad I don´t have to say it out loud here because I´ve no idea how, I think though I´ve got the right spelling. It was good by the way, I really enjoyed it, strong, bitter and a little foamed milk on the top. The cup I had wasn´t as good looking as the one on the pic, but it was certainly the proper thing to consume at the moment, in the shade by a big linden tree just next to the students home by the university ... and it was Friday at lunchtime, in the opening of the last weekend in the month of May.

The day before May Day wasn´t a very nice day, cold, windy and an unconcentrated crowd in the park. We ate candy to drive out time, child on the swing taking photo and me in an outburst. Then they lit the bonfire ... and things became groovy. :-)

... TPB continues

It has now come to attention that the judge in the PirateBay case might have been challengeable, why am I not surprised. As he is a member of several organizations that deal with copyright issues thus there seems to be a connection between him and the plaintiff. He was so to speak "sleeping with the prosecuting side" as one blogger I read puts it this morning.

PP and TPB

The issues concerning the Pirate Bay trial, I find it extremely difficult to have feelings around them and to tell about it, especially when it´s not in my native language. As for the technical matters I´m almost completely lost, I just don´t get the terminology about torrents and stuff. What I do see is the political points and the matter of our freedom of speech, but I decided not to go deep into this for the reason that I´m not so sure about how I really feel, thus I only posted a mark, the link to Wired Magazine.

Now, I had this comment from miss JustMeriMaat, and that challanges me to have a try, cause I realize this is an all over the world interest, and I hear netusers all over will be disappointed if TPB goes out because they are said to be the best, technicallywise.

For starters I am of the opinion that artists should be payed for their work, as it is today they´re already a disadvantaged group in terms of that, our society is not in favour of artists. (if they´re not super famous of course) What surprises me is that they are obviously the biggest opponents to TPB, I don´t fully get that, cause as I see it the internet is an extraordinary opportunity for artists to expose themselves, in ways that just wasn´t possible a decade ago.

Yesterday evening I watched a TV show, two Swedish extremely foolish fellows had Marilyn Manson in the studio and they really made a boring show out of it, if I may say. While relaxing on my coach, watching MM and fellows with one half of my brainmaterial, I used the other half to write down some thoughts on the Pirate Bay-show, and here it is:

Well, how do I feel about it, it´s like a big sigh actually, it´s so tiresome when media-actors try and slow down technical advance and development by chasing culprits, instead of learning the new shit! "sigh"

That just about covers it. :-)

We are in a time of inbetween the old and the new, and to be able to use the new media technique we are forced to learn otherwise we lose, that´s how it has to be, we could never stop the world turning. Now the so called old media hunt down the newcomers in one last attempt to retain power, pitiful, and how very embarrassing. So much energy used in sueing people, and they´re sued for something that isn´t even a crime, or at least nobody knows if it really is a crime. Come on! :( If the consumers had a decent line of action to easily and cheap buy music, litterature, movies or whatever, I´m sure they would. I would.

It´s also a matter of free speech, that´s the most important issue as I see it, those who put TPB on trial constitute a threat to our freedom of speech, and now that is politics. TPB has to pay to set an example, to let the big media companies win the first round. I believe the court are in the hands of the big record and movie companies, and that is a threat aganinst our democratic society and resemblance in front of the law, and that is bad and scary. I understand Sweden has a very good reputaion and has been to some extent a leading nation in computer tech, will we be able to hold our position in future ...

I´m not sure where this will lead us and I sincerely hope they are right, the guys on TPB, when they say we needn´t worry, that this is just a plain media-show. I think this is becoming close to war, the young versus the older, and I´m so f...g disappointed with some of the great Swedish artists, writers and musicians who have gathered against TPB, they are rich and could easily afford to give away parts of their work. Could it be a fact that these are the ones who don´t have the brainmeans enough to assimilate skill to use the net to their favour ... ??? instead of fighting it!

If it comes to reality that all this will lead us to severe restrictions on the net, then this is a disaster, so I really hope it will not. Imagine we have to ask for permission to enter all websites, or subscribe for most of the pages we use ... ugh. "sigh"

Well, how do I feel about it ... I really don´t know. I only wish this time inbetween will pass quickly.

Note: The Pirate Party has increased their members by 13 400 in less than three days. They will play a big part in our European elections this summer, a fenomena due to the verdict.

Ghost Exit only comes as Ghost Exit ... thus Ghost Exit it is.

I went to the bookstore yesterday looking for a book written by Philip Roth, recently published in Swedish. I had forgotten the title, naturally cause I hadn´t written it down, but I thought once I spot it I would recognize it. I´d read about Philp Roth on a blog discussing all kinds of cultural events and occurrences, the blog-guy just got hold of this book and informed the readers about the genius author that he himself had failed to appreciate. He caught my interest, thus I took a chance when we visited the bookstore to buy the third part of the Twilight books for my daughter, even thought I hadn´t made any mental note of the title.

I randomly searched the bookshelves, without luck, there was no title what so ever to find on Philip Roth. I don´t consider myself a bad searcher when it comes to books, after all I worked at the library once arranging all kinds of books in all kinds of languages in alphabetical order, so I felt a bit confused here (or was it the store had an illlogical muddle in their shelves :-)). My daughter instantly found her book, but I turned to the salesman for help. He looked up and found some titles but not the one I looked for, now I´d only read the title in question in Swedish, the English titles just made no impression at all on my person and I had no idea wich one to chose, but by this time I really had the intention of buying one of them and, in other words, I had to make up my mind.

I finally chose the title Ghost Exit and we headed for the cashier, the salesman greeted us and seemed pleased about my choice. Once we had payed for the books he looked in the catalouge once more and to his surprise he found a title in Swedish publised only last month, the title was Våldnaden Försvinner same as The Ghost Disappears but in Swedish , (of course :-)) ... Ghost Exit. I had chosen the right book, totally unaware.

englishspeakersquizzz?... or wordconfusion part 1

As the reading-spell took hold of me a couple of days ago, there is no time for blogactivities. Sorry. I have some word confusion though, hope for relief, with a little help from my English speaking readers, or if there are other fellow jerks out there of course, who might have a better knowledge than I have about these nasty little expressions.
?? as follows:
What is a geek?
What does fink on somebody mean?
A doozy??
Total gridlock ... (is total confusion)
If you´re a skinny puppy you´re not a little dog, are you ...?

.... o yes, current literature is Little Brother by Cory Doctorov, hence these tricky words that are not in any dictionary. See to it that you have plenty of free time if you get the idea of reading this book, since it´s really hard to stop once you start. :-)
.... and, the headline is long becauce I feel the page needs a little more colour to it.

Pirates of the ....

There are court proceedings going on, those responsible for the site the Pirate Bay, with free downloadings, are on trial, and the music industry in its present form is in the process of not being needed anymore. I myself don´t use the PirateBay, but that´s not for moral reasons, has to do with practical things and me not owning an mp3 player or iPod, and the band of my immediate interest keeps all that I need in their homepage, for us to get whenever we need it, for free. :-)

Contributions into this debate, concerning the trial, are to be found all around in mediasphere, and when I read an article on Newsmill I came across this Swedish band. (I´m not sure if it´s possible to translate the Newsmill-posts, it ought to be, it´s a very good article in my opinion) Maybe something to check out! It´s very "synth" ;-)

My wondrous life

There will be a point in life, when emotions beside you in time revolts and bawls loudly, calls upon you to regard yourself in the mirror of the past and ask: Did your life ever come off, what will you do with what´s left of it?

Generally the say is your life is approximately a period of about eighty years to come, so, I would´ve lived half a bottle of it at the age of forty, well ok, fortyfive then. :-) (if not to include the years of childhood too severly)
So. What am I supposed to do with the rest of it, the whimsical thirty years I have left, an inevitable question at this time in my wondrous :-) life.

just briefly

The book The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz got rewiews in our local newspaper this morning. I´ve tried to find it, for some time, but it isn´t to be found anywhere ... I´ve failed in my search. Now I guess our library will have a request coming up, in close future, from a borrower wondering why this title, in its original language, is not in their collection.

short stories

A while ago I wrote an American blog-friend of mine, for some reading ideas in English. As my skills in English aren´t as genuin as those of a native Englishman or American, she had to recommend me something not too complicated but still advanced enough to catch my interest. She actually gave me a good list of titles to go from, but unfortunately only some of them where available here i Norrköping.

The funny thing is, while going through the bookcases at the library I found an English author named Jeanette Winterson, she wrote a book Lighthousekeeping which I enjoyed very much, as a fact I will, in return, recommend it to my American blog-friend, I have a mysterious feeling she will like it.

The story is about life and the stories of life. It deals with movements in within humans, dependent on movement in God´s creation, kind of, telling about a priest loosing his belief in both himself and God when he finds out creation is still going on and will go on forever, and that we may have to deal with a maverick God, as he sees it, who created earth just for fun. There is no stable point to lean on anywhere. One has to find a belief inside oneself to gain strength and self confidence, thus getting tools and ability to deal with life. There is a lot of sea, a lot of light and a lot of darkness in this book, a blind lighthouskeeper and some really sad stories.

Quotation from the book:
"You don´t need to know everything. There is no everything. The stories themselves make the meaning. The continuous narrative of existence is a lie. There are no continuous narrative, there are lit-up moments, and the rest is in dark."

(For your knowledge miss L, I´ve got Drown by Junot Diaz in my hand and Ender´s game by Card, I will open them this week. I´m still not sure about my wiew concerning Sue Monk Kidd, I´ll get back to you on that. I read the Mermaid´s Chair, but ... well...I don´t know :-S.)

Pic for Leslie

"Ice world" by Rob Sheridan

come on, you cheeselovers

Two issues bothering me lately... American snacks and stand up comedy ;-) ...so, here´s now a cry out for advice and help, or points of view actually, from my american blogreaders, if there are any.

First out: Dane Cook, is he a funny guy or ... ? I watched some YouTube clips and tried to get the hang of it, that is his jokes, well, had some hard time finding them... he puked and stood upsidedown and he walked to and forth on stage. Oh, I liked the one when he ordered a burger that didn´t exist, nice try, and the man who tried not to care about the fact that he was run over by a car, just strolled along and pretended nothing had happened, ´cause it was so embarrasing, or what? In other words, my question is: Is he popular, is he funny? Is this good comedy according to the American view.

Number two: How do you put cheese on to popcorn? I watched an American TVseries, and they made popcorn and sort of sprinkled cheese over them. Over here cheese comes in one piece, the size you could decide yourself mostly, at the time of the purchase, only today I bought a very small piece of a very Swedish quality that was very ripe and quite expensive, therefore the very tiny piece, (that was a less important episode), but the thing is you have to use a cheese slicer or a knife to cut parts of it ... and then place them on your sandwich. There is also a possibility to use a grater of course, but even then the small parts will be far too big to sprinkle on popcorn. ??
Help...? Is there a special kind of cheese existing that I don´t know of?

On my Swedish blog I have a post discussing what´s art and what isn´t. A girl studying at the art school placed herself on a high bridge threatened to kill herself, jump. She was taken in care by the police and driven to the psyciatric care, and was forced to stay, was given sedatives, also by force, and bound. Later she informed the whole act was part of an artwork. Is this art, I wonder? I will probably have a reason to come back to this later.

madness

Everyone seems to be walking with severe cold these days ... sneezing, coughing and having a noose running after them. :-) Daughter is home from school sneezing, and days become tedious and are filled with too much rest, feels like you really never wake up. I got hold of The Idiot again, and the first part of that book has occupied my lazy brain during two days, the edition is an old one, gives you a nice laugh now and then, but then that is my little nerdy thing about editions ... This time though, I´ve come to the decision I have to buy myself a new one, this one has become boring with all it´s "ancient" vocabulary, I´ll have to drop by the secondhand bookstore any day now and look for a later.

Had to go out, took a detour passed the trash cans at the back of the building, just to get some air, fresh air ... :-), took the chance and got rid of some trash by the way, heard a crash. As I was only half awake I didn´t actually react on the sudden noice, until a man started shouting, "Mind where you´re driving!!...you stupid ... !!!" (something like that). I heard a child crying and that sound drove me out on the street, prepared for that something bad had happened. I noticed a man standing bent down towards the drivers seat in a car, waving his arms around, still shouting and cursing into the car. It was dark as it is in late afternoons but there were numerous people in the streets and some cartraffic too, everyone stared at the man in the middle of the street and I tried to locate the crying child without success.

I was aimed in that direction anyway so I walked towards the crossroads where this event had occured, still searching for the crying child. A bicycle lay on the pavement, I couldn´t see if it was damaged or broken in any way, and the shouting man obviously owned it and seemed to be alright, physically, though furiously mad. Now I spotted the crying child, the boy stood around the corner from where I stood, opposite to where the accident had happened, and I wasn´t sure he was scared because he´d whitnessed the crash or because of the furious man, probably both. He had his older brother or friend with him, comforting, so I didn´t interfere, just walked passed.

I saw the angry man calling, what I assumed to be, the 112 alarm number and heard him asking for the police, I also overheard him say he´d been hit by a car. An elderly woman stepped out from the passengerseat, and the driver carefully parked the car in the corner, anxious of being in the middle of the street. I left and found my way to the supermarket, daughter wanted some oranges, and I wasn´t needed in the corner.

Walking home again, carrying oranges, fresh bread and some chewing gum fruity taste in my bag, I could see the police car parked outside our building, the policemen took notes on their pads, and I could at this moment see the driver of the car, he was an old man, given support by an old woman while they crossed the street and got in to their car again. Well, well ... I thought, and old man, he must be so distressed by this, I almost felt sorry for him, a poor sort. Then again I´m not so sure he should´ve been out driving, especially not in the dark like this. The man that had been hit seemed to be fine, probably it had scared him, thinking he was so mad it must have been fear not madness ;-). ... maybe I´ve just had enough of madness for today, I will go to rest again, having and orange and waiting for the cold to hit me. No hard feelings Mr.Dostojevkij.
